Chicory is a herb related to the dandelion that has been used for thousands of years by humans, going back at least as far as the ancient Egyptians. Today one of the best uses of chicory root is as a substitute for coffee - grind it up and combine it with its cousin, dandelion root, for a simple but flavourful alternative.
